King’s Day, 27th April
Want to attend the coolest party of the year? King’s Day is the biggest and best street party in Europe which is celebrated all over the Netherlands on the 27th April. This national holiday is celebrated every year in Amsterdam for the birthday of King Willem Alexander (the King of the Netherlands). The Dutch capital goes big every year with massive parties on the streets and canals with hundreds of party boats lining the water. There are also music concerts, flea markets and celebrations throughout the city - and the best part is everyone wears orange! People travel from all over the world just to experience King’s Day so it’s definitely one to add to your bucket list.
Spring Break Amsterdam Festival, 5th - 7th April
If you want to party at night and go exploring and bar hopping during the day, then this is the festival for you. The Spring Break Amsterdam Festival is three days of music taking place in the city’s coolest spaces during the night. With up to seven venues taking part each evening, you can drift from one to another to see your favourite act. The line-up this year is awesome with Andy C, Artful Dodger, Kings of the Rollers, Hybrid Minds, Jay1, DJ Zinc and much more taking to stage. The festival offers day and night packages so you can go to boat parties, sights and bar crawls in the day, then hit the clubs at night for the music, all included in one ticket!
Need a hostel for this event? St Christopher’s at the Winston (the sister hostel of the Flying Pigs), will be participating as an accommodation operator for the Spring Break Festival where you’ll get your own rep and coach transfer from either London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Plymouth and Bournemouth.
DGTL Festival, 17th - 19th April
Consider yourself a house head? Then you’ll love the DGTL festival! The cool thing about this electronic festival is that it considers the environment just as much as music. From the food at the festival, to adopting recycling processes and renewable energy, we love how this dance festival is doing its bit for the planet. The three day event is hosted during Easter weekend and is returning to the cool industrial NDSM Wharf to bring you the hottest artists, banging beats and chillest vibes. This year, some of the line-up includes me & Marcel Dettmann, Acid Pauli, Adriatique, Nina Kraviz, The Black Madonna, Bonobo (DJ), Honey Dijon, KAS:ST (Live) and LSD.

Tulip Festival, 1st - 30th April
April marks the tulip season in Holland! The tulip is the national flower of the Netherlands and every year for April, tulips are planted across the city to brighten Amsterdam’s streets. You’ll be able to see blooming tulips at 85 locations in the Dutch capital, most of which are all free to access for the public (except the tulips planted on museum grounds where you need an admission ticket to the museum which will grant you access to the gardens). Participating museums include the Eye Filmmuseum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Hortus Botanicus, Museum Van Loon, Rijksmuseum and many public spaces throughout the city.
Awakenings Amsterdam, 9th - 12th April
One of the world’s biggest techno festivals returns to Amsterdam for Easter weekend. Awakenings is a four day all-night rave that sells out every year. Located in Amsterdam’s Gashouder venue from 9pm - 9am, this is one of the biggest house events on the music calendar. With Awakenings events taking place on Easter Thursday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Good Friday this year, each night will play host to some of the most epic DJs on the techno scene. Easter Weekend, 10th - 13th April
Planning to visit Amsterdam on Easter weekend? The Easter holidays in Amsterdam fall on 10th - 13th April, making it a four day weekend for locals in the city. This means the streets of Amsterdam will be busier than ever with families and friends enjoying their time off. If you want to escape the crowds, make the most of the long break and take a day trip out of the city to Keukenhof Gardens to see the tulip fields, or cycle out to Zaanse Schans, a beautiful Dutch neighbourhood with windmills, wooden houses, handicraft shops and lush countryside.
